The Horizon 2020 project “PATH2LC” invites you to a series of 3 webinars to learn and get inspired from local authorities inventing new ways of governing & planning the transition to climate-neutrality.

The goal of the webinars is to showcase concrete alternatives deployed by cities in their climate transition. These online talks will provide spaces to connect, share experiences and provide expertise of how other local authorities have designed and implemented their own local strategies and projects.

Local authorities play a key role in driving the transition of Europe to climate-neutrality. In parallel to reducing energy consumption from the buildings, boosting public transport and soft mobility, deploying local renewable energy sources, municipalities play a key role in engaging their community in the transition. Early 2021, the Covenant of Mayors – Europe renewed its ambitions. Beyond the objective of reaching climate neutrality by 2050, Covenant of Mayors signatories also commit to engaging their citizens, businesses and local stakeholders in the transition.

Some local authorities have become pioneers in innovating their local governance and supporting initiatives in their territories. To accelerate the transition to a greener and climate-neutral Europe, it is crucial that all local actors – knowledge institutions, businesses, and the civil society – become part of the thinking of a transition roadmap as well as of its implementation.

This third and last webinar will guide us through 2 inspiring examples of local governance in Europe: the first one will be the city of Loos-en-Gohelle in France, a pioneer in citizen involvement. The second speaker will be from the city of Brasov in Romania and will present the Brasov Transition Team created in 2020 involving the Municipality, the local public transport company, the local electricity distribution company and many more public and non-public organisations.

In the second part of the webinar, ALDA, the European Association for Local Democracy will moderate a discussion with the 2 speakers and the audience.
